Science Curriculum Intentt
At St Pius X we aim to encourage the natural curiosity of our children to open their eyes to the world around them and experience the scientific wonders of the world.
Explicit teaching of scientific vocabulary will form part of every unit and this will be identified both in planning and through classroom displays, teachers will model using correct vocabulary whenever possible and praise the use of correct vocabulary from the children to encourage its use in the future.
We aim to prepare our pupils for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world and lay a strong foundation of scientific understanding which they will build on in their future life.
We will teach children about the lives and achievements of famous scientists from around the world to show children how science has and can change the world for the better.
Our intent for learning in science is through systematic investigations of the physical, chemical and biological aspects of their lives relying heavily on first hand experiences, leading to scientific questioning and discussions about the world around them. It is our hope that through investigative science, pupils at St Pius X will continue to deepen their respect for the natural world and increase their care and appreciation of it.
